Elegant Greek-Italian Fusion: Jenny + Stephen
Playfully coined “My Big Fat Greek Italian Wedding”, Jenny and Stephen’s January wedding day couldn’t have been more fun. From the beginning of the process, Jenny and Stephen wanted to focus mostly on atmosphere for their guests. The food, bar, decor, and lighting were all incredibly important to the vision, all captured beautifully by Rustic White.
Their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Annunciation. In order to help make sure her guests understood all the important and meaningful details that are unique to a traditional Greek ceremony, our bride Jenny created a multipage program for them to follow along. This was our team’s first Greek wedding, so it was incredible to witness the intricacies of the traditional Orthodox ceremony, the most unique including the “Crowning” and the “Dance of Isaiah.” As guests left the ceremony, the program attendants helped to pass Jordan almonds, another traditional element. 5 white sugar-coated almonds (called the “koufeta”) signifies purity, fertility and new life beginning with marriage. The bitterness of the almond represents the endurance of the marriage, and the sweetness of the sugar symbolizes the sweetness of future life. The number 5 is indivisible, signifying that the couple will remain undivided. Italians give 5 almonds with the following wishes: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity.
Post ceremony, guests made their way to the Fox Theatre for cocktail hour and reception. Cocktails took place in the Fox’s Grand Salon. In the center of the space, Jenny and Stephen’s guests found their table assignments on olive oil escort cards. A pianist and bassist provided an array of jazz background music (specifically chosen by our groom), and guests were able to venture out onto the terrace for city views.
Subtle elements of both Stephen’s Greek family and Jenny’s Italian family were scattered throughout the evening, as well. Olive branch wreaths were incorporated into the couple’s classic stationery. Lush greenery arrangements of olive branches decorated guest tables. Caramel and ivory lush roses, along with touches of ruby and wine, created a romantic winter look. The florals by Bloomin’ Bouquets were stunning. It was so fun to see Jenny’s eyes beam with excitement when she saw the ballroom decorated.
Before the reception began in the Egyptian Ballroom, Jenny and Stephen snuck away with Rustic White to take some portraits in the historic Fox Theatre. Afterwards, they sat for a quick bite and champagne before watching as their guests entered the dramatic reception room for the first time.
Guest took their seats, and after formal dances, Affairs to Remember served a delicious seated dinner with three Greek and Italian inspired options. Confection Perfection created an almond cake with Italian Meringue for the perfect finish! And of course, Cannolis were passed late night.
Party Nation kept guests on the dance floor late into the evening. A rose petal exit and vintage Bentley created the perfect classic getaway down the red carpet. Congratulations and warmest wishes, Mr. and Mrs. Halkos!
